THE HOPE CHAPEL STORY
In the late spring of 1988, Tom and Sandie McCarthy of Santa Rosa met with Dan and Billie Boyd of Los Angeles to explore God’s leading to plant a new church in Santa Rosa. After much prayer, counsel, and research, a tentative plan was put in motion to confirm God’s direction.
In March of 1989, Tom and Sandie McCarthy started a Bible Study in the home of Forrest and Cheryl Kellert along with two other couples. The Bible Study began to grow and it was moved to the home of Gary and Chris Schumann. All the while everyone was sensing that God was doing a new thing and the expectation for a new church was born. In February 1990, we moved into the Barn on Sonoma Highway to practice having church in preparation for our huge Grand Opening on March 18. There were just over 200 people for our Grand Opening and this was confirmation to the McCarthy’s and Boyd’s of God’s plan for a new church in Santa Rosa.
We’ve come from a long and rich heritage of church planters. Hope Chapel Santa Rosa is a daughter church of Hope Chapel Del Rey founded by Dan and Billie Boyd, a granddaughter of Hope Chapel Hermosa Beach, and parent church to Hope Chapel West Santa Rosa, Hope Chapel Windsor, Restoration Community of Austin, Texas and seven Hope Chapel’s in the Fiji Islands.
We are proud to be a part of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel with over 60,000 churches world-wide. We believe that healthy churches can give birth to healthy reproducing churches. This is part of our genetic code as a church.
